Consultations

Aggression
Consultations are offered for behavior modification to provide the safest and most effective way to modify, manage and train an aggressive dog. The length of a consult is usually 1.5 to 2 hours. An extensive history is taken first by phone, as often times a certain answer will lead me to ask another question.
The purpose of the consult is to see how all family members interact with the dog, and how the dog interacts with them and with me. After meeting with you, assessing your dog’s temperament and behavior, I will devise a behavior modification protocol to begin to change your dog’s behavior. I will also likely work out strategies for you to change yours as well. There is no magic pill for fixing aggression in dogs. It takes time, management and consistency and training.
The goal of the consult is to devise a plan best suited for your family and your dog, at the same time keeping the safety of everyone involved a top priority.
It is your responsibility to follow up with me 10 days after the consult to discuss your success and sometimes to tweak the program that has been established for better results. I am available to answer questions after the 10 days by phone, and may ask you to keep a journal that you can email to me to keep me apprised of your progress.
Separation Anxiety
Some dogs suffer mild separation anxiety, while others have full blown separation anxiety. This consultation takes place in your home with is also had in your home with all members of the family after an extensive history is taken over the phone. Sometimes there are small changes that make a huge difference, other times, we may need the assistance of your vet coupled with behavior modification protocols and training to achieve a positive outcome.
Puppy consults
I have been called to help with breed selection, as well as puppy selection within a litter. Puppy consults can also include all ways to puppy proof a safe area in your home for your new puppy, as well as appropriate toys, bowls, bedding, crate, leashes, collars, grooming, and begin housetraining and integrate that puppy into your family.
One time visit
Sometimes there is the dog that is the model citizen, except for just one or two problems such as excessive barking, jumping up, pulling on leash or the like. In that instance, I’m usually able to give you the information and teach you the skills you need to fix the problem.
